If you are not familiar with All Night Grad (ANG) parties, they are what the name implies; an all night long party for the recent graduates of the high school. The parties are customarily held on the night of graduation to provide a safe, supervised, and memory-filled night in an alcohol-free and drug-free environment.
The Virginia Department of Education developed the Northern Virginia Project Graduation in 1987 in response to a request from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. The focus of the project created an after-graduation event model with the aim to change what had become an annual tragedy on this night - losing youth in the deadly mix of drugs, alcohol, and driving. This model has proven to be tremendously successful and high schools across Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Alexandria, and Arlington counties sponsor ANG celebrations for their graduates.
The ANG party at Herndon High School is sponsored by the school through the Drugs and Alcohol Free Activities (DAFA) initiative, local businesses, Herndon Community Center, parents, and friends of the school.
